In California, the provision of ABA services is now mandated by insurance companies. However, to access ABA coverage, understanding your insurance type is essential.
Fully Funded Plans
These plans, where premiums are paid either by the employer or the employee, are required by California to include ABA coverage. Consequently, your insurance provider will cover the costs of ABA services.
Self-Funded or Federally Funded Plans
Employer-operated plans, such as self-funded or federally funded ones, are exempt from state mandates. As a result, ABA service funding is not obligatory. In such cases, we will collaborate with your local Regional Center to secure coverage for your ABA services.
HMOs and PPOs
Plans under HMOs and PPOs are not bound by state mandates, leaving it to the discretion of the employer whether to include ABA services in coverage. Should these services not be covered, we will coordinate with your local Regional Center to facilitate coverage acquisition.
